Simple Answers to Your Questions

What is the USMC Body Fat Standard?

The Marine Corps uses a Body Composition Program (BCP) to ensure all Marines maintain a healthy and fit appearance. The standard is based on a maximum allowable body fat percentage, which varies slightly by age and gender. As of 2026, the Corps is also implementing a new Waist-to-Height Ratio (WHtR) as a primary screening tool. This calculator checks both!

How do I measure my Neck, Waist, and Hips correctly?

For the most accurate results, use a non-stretching tape measure. Neck: Measure just below the larynx (Adam’s apple). Male Waist: Measure at the navel (belly button). Female Waist: Measure at the narrowest point of the abdomen. Female Hips: Measure at the widest point of the hips/buttocks. Take three measurements and use the average for each.

What is the new WHtR standard?

The Waist-to-Height Ratio (WHtR) is a new, simple metric that divides your waist circumference by your height. A ratio of 0.55 or less is generally considered a pass for military standards, as it correlates strongly with better health and readiness. This calculator includes this advanced check to keep you compliant with the latest regulations.
